Pull it straight down firmly, twisting it side to side to break it loose. With the pan removed we can now access the filter. Remove the pan and clean it off along with the magnet and gasket.Ģ. Allow it to nearly fully drain to avoid a huge mess (which is going to happen anyway, it's just saving you at least a little bit of a headache). Loosen the ones toward the back of the car more than the front so the fluid drips toward the long end of the pan. Raise the front of the car and begin loosening the 10mm bolts on the transmission pan. This is a second warning not to use these shims. It will chirp the tires on a 1-2 shift and that means extra transmission wear and tear, especially on the drive chain and final drive unit.

VERY Hard Shift Kit - Seriously this thing is hard. There's also an optional spring used to firm up the 1-2 shift (usable with either medium or hard). The parts you need are determined by whether you want to do the medium (light street/strip) or hard (heavy street/strip) shift kit. Requires dropping the bottom transaxle pan, removing the shift pressure accumulator, changing the transaxle filter, and refilling the transaxle with fluid.

TES-389 stuff is getting pretty hard to find as of June 2018.Ĭredits: This do-it-yourself method was originally pioneered by members of OKGPC, so they get full credit for coming up with it. Valvoline MaxLife and other Valvoline fluids seem to be Dex VI compatible now. Valvoline Dex/Merc is a good option for someone who wants to stay with Dex III. Alison TES-389 indicates it is compatible with the old Dexron III standard. I suggest using ONLY GM approved Dexron VI fluids OR A "Dex/Merc" fluid that conforms to Alison TES-389. Fixed spacing.įree advice: Many transaxle fluids marketed as "Dex/Merc" compatible have changed their formulation and do not conform to previous Dexron specifications.

The HD3 kit is a full-race kit designed to provide the fastest possible shift performance without care for driver comfort or tranny life shifts are fast as possible to get you down the track tranny-be-damned and range anywhere from brutal to violent.Edit: March 13, 2017: Added disclaimer for VERY HARD shift kit.On a stock/NA AWD truck this shift kit will not chirp tires going into 2nd because there is plenty of traction, the WOT 2nd shift is definitely hard. The HD2-C kit improves tranny durability/life as much as possible without care for rider comfort, shifts are fast and at WOT can be described as anything from 'solid' to 'hard' in a car or maybe traction-limited 2WD truck these kits will chirp tires between gears as the actual torque holding capacity of the valvebody has been improved.

The HD kits include the same necessary fixes found in the basic SK kits -plus- changes in calibration to give the tranny HD/HP capabilities such as increased hp/tq handling ability, more manual control, and the rev spring kit to give higher RPM capability (you have to overhaul the tranny to install the rev kit). In TransGo lingo: Reprogramming Kit is what they call their High Performance Shift Kit it's now also known as the Heavy Duty, or HD, shift kit. P, could you or someone elaborate on this as to what more complete means? My question is since I already have the one kit, is it really necessary to sell/return it and get the HD2 or will I be ok.and if I should go the HD2 no matter what.I would at least like a reasonable explanation )
